A Tough Place
In order to become a licensed educator in Colorado I have to take and pass the PLACE test. Over the past few semesters, I have heard all the kids in my art classes talk about how hard the test is. I didn’t really doubt them, I just hoped they were wrong. I took the exam Saturday afternoon and was disappointed to find my classmates right on the mark.
The test was 100 multiple choice questions covering three major areas: art mediums, aesthetics, and history. It was pretty extensive. It was held in a high school in Arvada, so Dylan and I piled in the car Saturday afternoon and made the trek. It took me two hours to complete the test, which means with drive time the whole ordeal took about 5 hours.
I felt alright about things until I hit about question 85. Then there were 6 questions in a row about native american art, which I have never studied at all. I had to just take a stab in the dark, so I ended the test feeling a little uncertain. I won’t find out my scores for another 2 weeks, which feels a long way off. If I don’t pass I have to take it again in July and pay another $100 registration fee.
I just hope I passed. I tried really hard to study, and I don’t want to go through all the preparation and driving and test all over again. Ugh. So…if you think of it, keep your fingers crossed for me.
